Local photographer, Shona Dey, spoke to us about her new project - What's Growing Albert-Eden? in early 2020:
A little while ago, I was given this Lauki (Bottle Gourd) that had been grown by a family who had recently immigrated to New Zealand, in the shared space behind their Sandringham flat. It was such an impressive looking vegetable that I had to photograph it with my son, before cooking it up over the next few days in a number of different ways. I was also left wondering what else is growing in the gardens in the Albert-Eden area? Over the next few months, I will be researching this, meeting neighbourhood growers and photographing their produce.
The project culminated in a series of beautifully designed postcards featuring Dey's photography and a summary of the featured garden. These postcards were shared throughout the community for locals to collect, read about and admire.
