Kamasutra Chronicles is about a couple, experiencing traditional issues in a long-term marriage, such
as loneliness, sexual frustration and a loss of themselves. The author of the Kama Sutra, Vatsayana,
comes alive along with his muse and courtesan Vasant Sena to offer their counsel and things only
get more interesting. The characters embark on a journey filled with satire, romance and
relationships whilst boldly challenging stereotypes.
The scriptwriter and producer are driving the production as an experiment in learning the art of
theatre, being self-taught members of the local community, wanting to produce more local
initiatives, with a key focus on diverse communities. With the production being centred around a
classical text within the context of contemporary Auckland, the wider community is welcomed to be
active participants in the discussion of issues raised via the production.
Developed over a series of workshops and readings, the script is now ready for a second public reading to be held on 5pm, Saturday 30th November, at Ferndale House, Mount Albert.
